Making the Pledge of Allegiance a Requirement

I truly believe that from elementary school on up to high school, students should be required to recite the Pledge of Allegiance every day. I think that if children and young adults are required to recite the Pledge of Allegiance every day, then they will grow up learning to respect our country and our beliefs. Lets just take a minute and think about what the Pledge of Allegiance is saying. To me it is stating that the United States flag represents our freedom and the laws that our country is made up of. It is stating that we join together as one nation, under God, with justice for everyone that is living in our country. If we instill these values in children starting at a young age, they will learn what it means to live in a free country and what on honor it is to do so.

  1. I agree with what you're saying, but I don't think that it is necessary to require schools to make studens recite the pledge of allegiance.
There are many other ways to demonstrate our patriotism, honor, and appreciation to be American. I recently graduated from high school, and I can tell you that any day of the week you can walk into a classroom and notice that though the pledge of allegiance is being recited on the PA, no one is actually joining in. We are supposed to get up and face the flag, but truth is some people don't even bother look up. In your post you stated: "...the United States flag represents our freedom and the laws that our country is made up of." Where is the freedom when you're actually being required to say it. I think that from a young man or young lady is best demonstrated when they stand up for themselves. Yes, I agree that it should be recited in elementary schools because that's where children start learning all these values, but high school? Not so much.

  2. I see what u mean, but i dont believe that the pledge should keep being recited at schools. not because i am against it, but because it isn't being respected as it should be. there are two reasons why i believe this, the first is that the text of the pledge contains the word God, and not everyone believes in God. because not everyone is of the same religion, it could be somewhat offensive to those of different religion. the second reason i don't think the pledge should be a requirement is because some students dont take it very seriously. every morning students are told to recite the pledge, but they forget to explain to them the meaning why we do this. the meaning has been lost for many people after so much repetition, and is now simply a routine. i remember at my high school there were always students who would stand there and talk or who would just make funny faces at the other students. the pledge has been recited in schoold for so long, and it seems like the respect has been lost. there's still a few that know why they are reciting it, but most still take it as a joke.
